Guitar Tone Matching System
So one of the issues I and other profilers face is when someone downloads our profiles - whether it's from here, the rig exchange, another of my colleagues who sell profiles, heck, anyone other than you who is making a profile - and the issue is that it doesn't sound like the clip or like the original profile when it was made with the 'host' guitar.
Even if the clip is made with only effects from the Kemper itself, you're going to not quite get the same sound as the guy who made the profile because of one simple reason - you are playing different guitars. If I make a profile with a Les Paul and you play a strat, it's going to sound different, right? Even if you have a strat and I have a strat, there are still going to be some differences - ever go to a music store and play several instruments of the same brand and type, and notice how one was thinner sounding, or another one beefier? These differences can drive us crazy but are really a strength of the Kemper - it doesn't homogenize your guitar sound, your guitar still sounds like... your guitar.
Ok, so how can we fix or at least get a closer profile between two different instruments? I've been working on this for awhile, and I think I found a solution. Here it is... you send me a direct out/reamp file of your guitar you're going to use with the profile. Playing a simple six string E chord. Let it ring out. Send me the file in WAV or high quality MP3 format. I take the reamp file I made of the guitar that I'm going to use from now on for the Guitar Tone Match System, and analyze the differences between the two guitar sounds. I make a EQ on the Kemper of the difference so your guitar, when using this EQ on the profile, will be changed to be closer to the one I used. As long as I use the same guitar for all GTM profiles and you use the guitar you sent me the file of, we should have a closer match.
This has several great features, including the fact that once I create an EQ match for your guitar, that guitar will be matched to all profiles I create from this point on. Tone Matches, Amps, whichever - all you have to do is take the profile I create and add your EQ in Slot A. Your guitar is matched to mine and a more accurate profile is achieved.
Another great feature is if you don't want to use this feature, my profiles still work as well as they did before. It's just a little extra that some folk who are a little more tone conscious can take advantage of. You pay one time for the creation of your EQ, and can use it on any GTM marked profiles I create. Since it is a match of your guitar and mine, it only works with Pete's Profiles and only with my guitar. If anything happens to my GTM guitar, I will create at no extra charge another EQ for you, but I don't plan on this happening.
My one time fee for the EQ creation is going to be $20. If you have more than one guitar, there will be discounts as long as I do them all at once for you - the discount is because some of the steps are more quickly done if they are for the same person. I'm charging for my time most of all, and as I stated before - it's a one time fee per guitar and my pricing on Profiles is going to stay the same.
I welcome any discussion - please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. Nothing is perfect but this gets us a little closer!

I'm Sold, take my money! Where do I order this?
Since this is a totally custom product, I'd feel best about someone emailing me first to make sure we're on the same page. I can send a Paypal invoice, once you pay it and send me your wav or mp3 file then I start work!
Why do I need it?
You don't, to be honest. You don't need your Kemper either. Most users are fine with profiles how they are, this is a way to narrow the gap and add a bit more accuracy. My profiles are still the same high quality and great sounding profiles you had in the past, this is just a way to make them a tiny bit closer to what I had here. This is just my way of taking something that is great and making it a bit greater.
This sounds like a lot of work! I have to add your EQ to each profile?
Yep. But there's an easy way to do it. Load a profile that is set up for Guitar Tone Matching, and apply your custom EQ to slot A. Now
press the 'lock' button under the master volume, and while holding it down, select slot A. Now every profile you pull up has slot A and your
custom EQ. If you store the profile, it will place that EQ in slot A even after you unlock it. It's a great way to add your custom EQ to
profiles quickly and easily.
Pete, why don't you add the EQ to each profile for me?
It would cost you too much! Consider this - when I make a new profile set, I am essentially finished once I put it on the website. All of my
time was spent on capturing the tones, crafting the fx, saving the info, etc. The reason I and others can provide profiles inexpensively is
because once we're done with the stuff above, we're done. If I had to create a custom profile set for each person, I would have to load their
custom EQ for each profile, resave it, then import the entire set to my PC, zip it up and email it to you. Time is money, and if I had to do
this several times a day I wouldn't be making new profiles or coming up with new ideas, I would be doing this. It's much easier for the end
user to add the EQ. Plus this way you only are charged for creating your EQ in the first place, you can use it as much as you want
afterwards with no hidden fees. Buy it once and you're done.
What about my older profiles?
If the profiles weren't made with the guitar I match your guitar to, it's not going to work. So this is not a 'legacy' product - it only works
with profiles taken from now on or with the guitar I used. Since it's an effect (EQ) within the Kemper, it's easy to use it where you want it and avoid it where it's not necessary.
Does it work with other people's profiles?
No. It only matches your guitar to mine.
How much more are Guitar Tone Matched Profiles?
Not a cent more. You use the same profiles everyone else does, you just have to use your custom EQ I provide with each profile. This
matches your profiles and your guitar to mine.
What if you sell/lose/drop/break your Profiling Guitar, Pete? Will I still have matches?
Yep. I will keep your guitar wav and mp3s on file, in the event that I have to switch guitars for profiling I will make you a new set of EQs at
no cost. Trust me, I'm going to guard this guitar with my life! :)
I use five guitars with my Kemper. So I need five Guitar Tone Matches?
Well, each match is for one of your guitars. There's no way to make one match work for a variety of guitars. If your guitars are all the same
model and sound similar, one match would be fine. If they were a little varied - say a Les Paul and a maple neck superstrat, you might want
to consider purchasing two tone matches. Again, you only purchase one for each guitar, and then you are done. Each profile provided by
Pete's Profiles after release of Guitar Tone Matching will be compatible from now on.
Ok, How much is it? What do I have to do?
$20 for one guitar, $35 for two, $45 for three. If you have more than three guitars you need matches for, congratulations and contact
me via email. I will work with you on a good discount.
You will need to send me a file of each of your guitars played through your Kemper using a reamp out (Git Studio). All you need to do is
strum an open E chord and let it ring out. Be sure you are on a bridge humbucking pickup, and volume and tone controls are all the way up.
Then email the file to me after purchasing the Guitar Tone Match online. It shouldn't be more than 5-10 seconds long at most. A high
quality MP3 is fine, or a WAV file.
So what happens next?
I take your file, and my guitar, and analyze the EQs and create a custom EQ in the Kemper that makes your guitar sound like mine. I save
this file to a profile, transfer it to my PC and then email you the profile with the file in slot A already custom named for you.
How quickly will I get my EQ Matches?
This is not something that I just send you a link to like an already created profile - I literally have to create the EQ for each client's guitar.
So timeframe will vary - from a few hours to a day or two, depending on when recieved and how many are ahead of you in the pipeline. I will
do everything to give you my best ETA upon receipt of your email. Please also remember I am in the USA and central timezone, so if you
send a email with file at 3am my time, it may be several hours before I see it.
I still have questions.
I have answers! Email me and I'll be more than happy to answer them or work with you to get this figured out. It's a
different way of thinking but it works well, as my beta testers will attest to. This is something that has been in the works for awhile, it's
going to change things!
