What is Custom Tone Matching
A lot of time, you may hear a signature tone or a guitar sound on a recording and want to match it as closely as possible. In many cases that can be arranged. To match properly you need software to copy the EQ curve and apply it during the profiling process, and gear that approximates what was used tonally. In other words, if you are matching Randy Rhoad's Crazy Train tone as I did in the clip below, things like the year of marshall aren't really going to matter as long as you know how to dial in the amp. Ditto for speakers, the EQ curve is going to take care of that for the most part. It takes some technical know how and a good array of gear to match tones.
How does the process work?
Here's what I need from you:
1) artist and album. If we can't find a part of the guitar track that is isolated (meaning you just hear guitar, and hopefully fairly dry guitar) it's going to be a lot harder. I have a collection of isolated guitar tracks for many popular artists - so even if you can't provide it, give me album and song, maybe I can!
2) what guitar and pickups you use. I know, guitars all sound different like amps, but if you tell me you play a Les Paul then I can profile with one and use it to dial in the tone - making a better match than if I used say a strat or a telecaster. I have enough guitars that I can probably come up with something pretty close to what you're using.
3) Once I have this info, I can at least see if it's going to be feasible and give you a price. Once agreed upon, I'll make the profile, make you a clip, once you approve the clip you pay me and I send your customized profile.
