Digitech Crossroads pedal profiles
Usually we profile amps. Now and then we find something cool enough, even though it's not a real amp, that deserves being profiled too. I present to you the Eric Clapton Crossroads Pedal Profile Set. :)
Basically I set the controls for neutral, made a profile and then used settings on the kemper to sweeten and make the tone more useful. The pedal had seven classic tones, I enjoyed one so much I did a super tweaked version that is killer for soulful leads. Since these were taken direct from a pedal, no mics and no cabs were used - so seven total profiles.
One thing they do not tell you is that you have to be somewhat in the guitar ballpark to get close to the recorded tones. While these tones are all useful, some are certainly much closer than others.

- PT Layla - Emulation of a Tweed Fender cranked. Use a strat on the bridge pickup and you're pretty much there. Doesn't quite have the rattiness of the recorded tone, but it's a great tweed sound in it's own right. Really sweet tone. I also set up a tube screamer for a slight boost, but it's not normally on.
- PT Layla plus - I cranked the gain on the pedal, tweezed the settings, and this is a very useful mid-high gain solo voice. Try it, you'll like it.
- PT Layla Acoustic. Good sounding emulation of an acoustic guitar. Try different pickup settings to determine which you prefer or works best in the mix.
- PT Lay Down - Lay Down Sally. Basically a clean tone, I also set up a rockabilly style slapback delay that you can turn on or off.
- PT Crossroads - Yep, that song. I'd use something with a Humbucker here. Nice Marshall tones live in this profile.
- PT Badge - Cleaner strat with a little dirt. Set up two different Leslies - one is pre, one is post amp. Post amp is in stereo, pre is mono for live use. Both sound great!
- PT Sunshine - Of your Love, of course. Get out the humbucker for this one. Another cool Marshall tone.
- Reptile - this is an emulation of a Jazz tone, to be honest I didn't like the original much. Set it up to be a little more gain, smoother and dynamic. Use a neck pickup here, works well with strats and humbuckers.
microphones used
- None! The Crossroads Pedal emulates the amp and cab as one.

Clapton Crossroads Digitech Pedal based Profiles
Took seven great emulations from the Crossroads pedal and profiled and retweaked them for use with the Kemper including effects (the Kemper can't profile effects, just amp tones). Also set up a great tweed emulation with custom tweaks that make it a soloing machine. A nice acoustic emulation is in this profile pack too, along with a few emulated clapton vintage marshall tones.
