carvin vintage series nomad
4xEL84 powered, two channels, does a great vintage thing, even the high gain channel sounds like an old amp about to blow apart. This one was modded with a master volume for both channels so you can crank up the 'clean' channel volume and get power tube breakup. This amp is not for those who want a modern tone, if you like the sound of a vintage amp cranked, here it is. Most profiles in this set include regular, merged and direct out. Why include all three instead of just merged? Regular and merged can still sound a little different, this gives a few more options. Also if Kemper improves the merged process, you can merge these on your own with the regular and direct out profiles. Merged and direct out profiles in this set were tested with a Kemper Powerhead into the cabinet used for profiling. They are accurate.
MIcs used
- md421 - Sennheiser classic, used on drums and guitar amps. Looks like a phaser from Star Trek!
- vintage sm57 - just about everyone knows what this is. Mine is a Unidyne III USA made model from the late 60s. Yes there is a difference between mine and a new import one.
- Isa One + MXL ribbon mic - This signal path is a Focusrite ISA One analog standalone preamp into an MXL Ribbon microphone. The ISA allows for different impedance settings, so you can tailor it to the microphone used. Plus it sounds great with ribbon mics.
- Tube pre + PR20 - Stromberg Carlson 1950s Tube PA amp that I slightly modded for use as a pre. Yes, it's not really high fidelity, but remember guitar amps are primarily midrange instruments. This pre is matched with a Heil PR20.
- Tube pre + PR20 + md421 - Blend of the two mics to give a little better high end and the thick chewy mids of the tube pre and PR20.

My favorite stock 1972 Marshall bottom cab. Vintage Pulsonic cones have a great breakup and tone.
sound clips
Both sample clips were recorded with a Kemper using SPDIF input into a MOTU 896mkIII. All guitars were a Tom Anderson Surf burst H/H with coil splits. Clean tones on the Steely Dan type clip had the volume slightly rolled back. Solo tones on the Sample Jam was higher gain and bridge humbucker at start, changing to position 4 on the pickup selector midway through the clip. Bass tones were a Charvel mid 80s neck through bass using Pete's Profiles Sansamp profiles. Drums are midi tracks played back through Steven Slate samples.
Carvin Vintage Series Nomad
Carvin 4xEL84 powered Vintage style amp. 48 total profiles, most have a regular, a merged and a direct profile of each amp/mic setting. Each are provided so the end user can, if the merged profiling is ever improved by Kemper, merge them again. There can be a slight difference between merged and regular profiles, so all are included. A few profiles are modded and didn't have direct profiles pulled.

Please note, this has high and low-medium gain profiles. They are not crystal clear and are not modern. If you're looking for modern, these are not the profiles you want. If you want vintage style profiles of an amp profiled at an incredibly high volume with lots of power tube overdrive, you'll like these.
